Six reasons to work or study at De Titaan
De Titaan, the former tobacco storage building of the Caballero factory, has been an impact innovation hub in the Binckhorst since 2023. It’s a place where a diverse ecosystem of companies, makers, and students come together. Here are five reasons why it’s such a special place to work or study. We at Media Fresca enjoyed our three-month stay immensely.
1. Collaborate with impact-driven pioneers
Step into De Titaan. and you immediately feel the buzzing energy of students, young entrepreneurs, and innovative ideas. There are corners everywhere to meet, grab a coffee, or test prototypes – from machines that apply screen protectors to your phone to containers where shiitake mushrooms grow for soup later.
You can see the same dynamism in the more than 50 start-ups and scale-ups that are located there, including sustainable and circular companies such as Kameleon Solar, which fitted the façade with coloured solar panels. De Titaan is also part of the larger entrepreneurial cluster in the Binckhaven, where companies such as Secrid, Greenfox, Q42 and brewery Kompaan operate.
2. Study and build your business at Unknown University
De Titaan is home to the Unknown University of Applied Sciences, an education programme where students set up their own businesses from day one while working towards a BSc Entrepreneurship & Innovation.

Students get office space in the hub’s incubator and access the same facilities as entrepreneurs: meeting rooms, makerspaces, a fully equipped podcast studio, and even a professional kitchen. Here, learning and entrepreneurship literally go hand in hand.
3. Join a close-knit community
During our months at De Titaan, we saw the community truly come alive. Students, start-ups, and creative makers meet daily, often over community lunches at the picnic tables, with freshly prepared dishes and a focus on zero food waste.
The motto ‘Fuel founders to fix the future’ is visible everywhere: ideas are shared, collaborations happen spontaneously, and innovation is given plenty of room to grow.
4. Make use of leading facilities
Our office in De Titaan was perfect for our team, with comfortable chairs and adjustable desks for standing work. But De Titaan is more than just an office building – it feels like a full campus.
There are spaces from 50 to 200 square metres, suitable for small teams or groups up to 150 people, as well as meeting rooms, call booths, makerspaces, event areas, and shared kitchens, including a coffee machine serving Brute Bonen cappuccinos.

Students and entrepreneurs also have access to incubator spots, quiet work areas, collaborative spaces, an 800-square-metre shared kitchen (KiCo) for food entrepreneurs, a gym, and a fully equipped podcast studio. Everything you need to test ideas, scale your business, and produce content professionally – all in one place.
5. Take part in events and activities
De Titaan is about more than just work. Members regularly organise events to share ideas and products, such as KiCo’s makers’ tables for showcasing and testing food innovations.
The hub also hosts workshops and inspirational sessions on topics from vitality, sleep, and nutrition to managing stress and workload. It’s an environment where learning, experimenting, and inspiration come naturally.
6. Bonus: explore the creative Binckhorst
Coming from the centre of The Hague, the Binckhorst was a bit of an adjustment for us. But we quickly discovered the creative energy of this up-and-coming neighbourhood. From street art and innovative businesses to hidden cafés and new restaurants, there’s plenty to explore. Anyone working here will notice how versatile, energetic, and inspiring the Binckhorst is, with De Titaan at its lively heart.
