May holiday tips with kids in The Hague

The holidays have started. Kids at home, so time to come up with something. These are a few activities and places to go together.

Museon-Omniversum

Rrrr... a tiger sounds somewhere. The Dome is running Wild Asia this May holiday, in which you will travel through jungles and mountains and see how animals live and survive there.

In the museum itself, this continues. Children can make their own animal and discover how animals adapt to their environment. On some days, pandas and tigers suddenly walk around... well, in make-up.

Panorama Mesdag

A classic, but still always fun to do once with children. During the May holidays, you literally step into the largest painting in the Netherlands here.

With a treasure hunt in hand, they discover all kinds of things about Hendrik Willem Mesdag's Panorama of Scheveningen. Who is painting on the beach, what are flatboats and how big is the canvas? You start downstairs, walk through a dark corridor and via the spiral staircase you suddenly find yourself in the middle of the panorama.

Found everything? Then something fun is waiting at the counter.

Mauritshuis

The Mauritshuis is all about birds this May holiday, with the exhibition BIRDS. As you walk through the museum, you come across them everywhere.

Children can go out with Maurice Mouse and then make their own binoculars in the Art Workshop. If you prefer to just go around on your own, there is a bird watching route that lets you walk through the museum and look for birds in the paintings.

Amare

Culture House Amare also has some fun things planned during the May holidays. On Sunday 3 May, for instance, they have the show Rang-e-Ishq, a musical with lots of dance and music. They also organise a family Sunday every month. On Sunday 10 May there will be another such day, including music workshops for the little ones, a small concert, arts and crafts on the Arts Square and a short performance such as Hup Herman (3+).

Kunstmuseum Den Haag

Last in this list of cultural tips with kids is the Kunstmuseum, which also has plenty to do during the holidays. The Wonder Rooms are often the most fun to dive into, as children can do and discover all sorts of things there. In the Children's Studio, they can then get to work, from crafts to a workshop, such as making a mosaic landscape with coloured stones and patterns.

In nature

All nice things to do indoors, but with a bit of luck the weather will be along too. The beach is just around the corner. Get a breath of fresh air, get an ice cream or just sit down while the kids play. Frederik Hendrikplein often hosts a fair and while you are at the beach, you can also take a dip at The Shore, Hart Beach or Aloha Surf. Also fun: a walk through the Westduinpark or the Scheveningse Bosjes. A little further away are Clingendael Park and the Japanese Garden, which is especially beautiful in spring with all the flowers in bloom.
