1. Favourite restaurant
Bøg

A recently discovered favourite is restaurant Bøg, a stone's throw from the Palace Garden. Both the interior and the dishes are minimalist, clean and pure. They serve a meat/fish menu or a vegetable/dairy menu as standard. From the flaxseed crackers to the pickled sea buckthorn berries - everything is fresh and packed with flavour. And they also serve great wines!

2. Favourite ice cream parlour
Pete Artisans of Flavour

My friend didn't really allow me to share this tip, but I can't ignore it. Pete's pistachio ice cream is the best I've eaten outside Italy. They put far more nuts in it than the regular recipe calls for - and you can taste it! They are also rock solid in sorbet ice cream, with flavours like apricot-lavender and passion fruit-mint.

3. Favourite cake shop
De Bonte Koe

The only real answer to this question is, of course, Maison Kelder's hazelnut meringue cake. But when I am in the mood for something sweet, I usually succumb to chocolate from De Bonte Koe. Fun fact: they have also thought of hungry Hagenaars outside closing time. At their unique chocolate vending machine, you can pull the tastiest chocolates from the wall 24/7. Very dangerous.

4. Favourite cocktail bar
Caipi Café

New kid on the block Caipi Café is located in an iconic spot. At the Scheveningen fish auction, the Caipi Boys, world-famous in The Hague and known from festivals, have transformed the old Zeemanshuis into one of the city's most fun drinking spots. Delicious cocktails and bites with often live music and DJs.

5. Favourite bakery
Bartine

According to many, my neighbourhood baker Bartine is the No. 1 bakery in The Hague, and the queues are corresponding. I sometimes think people even travel from Amsterdam for this sourdough Walhalla - and rightly so. But even outside the Zeeheldenkwartier, you can find lots of goodies. On weekdays, my colleagues and I are at BRO, an amazing bakery in the city centre.
