1. Circus Coffee

Everyone has their regular coffee spot, but Circus Coffee in Scheveningen is one worth making a detour for. Located next to the AFAS Circustheater in the former Coffee Company on Circusplein, the new coffee bar brings a touch of Miami Beach to the boulevard.

The café was opened by Robin Bruinsma, who previously worked at several coffee bars and now has a place of her own. On the menu are bagels, breakfast bowls, toasties and proper coffee. We can already see ourselves settling in here with our laptops for a morning of work.

2. Soul Be It

As soon as the sun makes an appearance, a stop at this new ice cream shop is never a bad idea. Tucked away on Heulstraat, Soul Be It serves gelato with flavours you’re unlikely to come across elsewhere. Think combinations such as cereal milk with oolong tea, or vanilla ice cream with a homemade berry swirl, oat crumble and glazed pecans. Owner Karen SL Huang develops and makes everything herself.

3. AndermansKeuken

AndermansKeuken on Frederikstraat recently came under new ownership. The restaurant is now run by Jim Boctor, who you might remember as chef de château at Kasteel de Wittenburg in Wassenaar, where he cooked for large dinners, weddings and high-profile events.

Now he is in the kitchen of AndermansKeuken, with a menu full of dishes like steak tartare with small waffles, oeufs à la truffe and a vodka-’nduja pasta with stracciatella. With the Kingstreet team, we joined them for a champagne lunch inspired by Perrier-Jouët champagnes. From steak tartare with small waffles to a coupe classique with salmon and Dutch shrimps and a semifreddo with ricotta, white chocolate, red fruit and passion fruit; the latter dish in particular was popular.

4. La Pappardella

A good pasta or pizza always gets our attention, especially when it genuinely feels Italian. Newly opened on Molenstraat, La Pappardella is an osteria inspired by family-run restaurants in 1980s Naples. Expect everything you’d want from a long Italian evening: handmade pasta, Neapolitan pizzas from the wood-fired oven, antipasti and wines from Campania. And yes, that kind of dreamy carbonara you instantly start craving again.

5. Mala Beach

No list of new openings in The Hague would be complete without a beach club. Mala Beach has recently opened in the former La Parade space on Zuiderstrand, by the team behind Beau Dining & Drinks on Goudsbloemlaan. From breakfast and lunch to drinks and dinner by the sea, the menu ranges from pain perdu and club sandwiches to shared dining. As soon as the sun comes out again, we already know which new beach spot we’ll be trying first.
