Good morning, Agnes!\u201d About half an hour before Madurodam opens to visitors, Gustav Beks strolls through the theme park towards the cafeteria. The cleaners employed by Beks receive a cheerful greeting and a broad smile. \u201cOur people come first, treating them well is essential,\u201d Beks says later over a cup of coffee.<\/p>\n<p>In July, Beks celebrated the fifteenth anniversary of B2-Cleaning in The Hague together with his business partner Edward Bokern. The two met while working for one of the largest service providers in the world. \u201cIt was an amazing time,\u201d says Beks. They got along well, and with the experience they had gained, they decided to start their own company.<\/p>\n<p>At first, they didn\u2019t dive straight into cleaning. The pair focused on facilities consultancy and acted as intermediaries between cleaners and the companies that needed their services. Although this went well, they quickly realised that their happiness did not lie in a lifetime behind a desk. Beks laughs: \u201cWe\u2019re not really desk people. So when a client asked why we didn\u2019t just do the job ourselves, we decided right then and there to start cleaning ourselves.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2>Bijenkorf<\/h2>\n<p>Fifteen years later, the company employs over seven hundred people. In addition to regular cleaning, B2-Cleaning also handles window cleaning, floor maintenance, and pest control. Their clients include major names like the Bijenkorf, Kruidvat, and PLUS Supermarkets. B2-Cleaning works across many sectors, from healthcare and retail to childcare and museums.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_35367\" style=\"width: 1034px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-35367\" class=\"wp-image-35367 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/kingstreet-magazine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/B2-cleaning-2-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"B2 Cleaning \" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" srcset=\"https:\/\/kingstreet-magazine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/B2-cleaning-2-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/kingstreet-magazine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/B2-cleaning-2-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/kingstreet-magazine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/B2-cleaning-2-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/kingstreet-magazine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/B2-cleaning-2-18x12.jpg 18w, https:\/\/kingstreet-magazine.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/B2-cleaning-2.jpg 1170w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-35367\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The cleaners are busy early in the morning ensuring Madurodam is spotless on time.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>What began with a single client has grown into a large network across the country. According to Beks, the secret to this success is twofold: hard work and looking after your employees. \u201cIf cleaners need new or different equipment, they get it.\u201d And if employees face financial difficulties or other problems, support is available. \u201cNot long ago, one employee\u2019s father passed away in Ghana. He couldn\u2019t afford a plane ticket, so we lent him the money. Of course, we keep things professional and make clear agreements, but when someone is in need, you have to step up for each other.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>To mark the fifteenth anniversary, B2-Cleaning donated \u20ac5000 to the Madurodam Children\u2019s Fund and \u20ac5000 to Sterk en Positief, a foundation that raises money for brain tumour research. The company also launched its own \u2018Make a Wish\u2019 fund, allowing employees to grant small wishes for each other, such as a new washing machine. \u201cWe had done this for a while, but now we really communicated it widely to our team: look out for each other,\u201d says Beks.<\/p>\n<h2>Scrubbing floors<\/h2>\n<p>This works best when you are approachable and among your employees, say Beks and Bokern. When there\u2019s a new client, the two directors go along on the first visit. \u201cAnd sometimes the second or third visit too, if needed,\u201d says Beks. \u201cWe all get to work, and I often end up on the floor cleaning the toilets. I tell all our new managers the same thing: pitch in, show that you\u2019re not afraid of hard work.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"fl-builder-content fl-builder-content-1291 fl-builder-template fl-builder-module-template fl-builder-global-templates-locked\" data-post-id=\"1291\"><div class=\"fl-module fl-module-html fl-node-5e6e52367938f\" data-node=\"5e6e52367938f\">\n\t<div class=\"fl-module-content fl-node-content\">\n\t\t<div class=\"fl-html\">\n\t<hr style=\"height: 2px; color: #a99179; background-color: #a99179; border: solid #a99179 0px;\">\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-size: 25px; color: #94abb5; font-style: italic; font-family: 'Playfair Display';\"><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>This mentality has brought the company to where it is today, but it can sometimes go too far. On one occasion, Beks and Bokern went to a job with a team of cleaners and brought two large floor scrubbers. \u201cEdward and I were lifting those heavy machines out of the van while the others were having a smoke break \u2026\u201d Beks laughs. \u201cThat\u2019s not exactly the point.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The company is doing well, but it hasn\u2019t all come easily, says Beks. \u201cThings do go wrong from time to time; that\u2019s part of it. And like any other entrepreneur, we experience stress, but for us it\u2019s about more than the numbers. We want our team to enjoy coming to work every day. We value the extras, like a Christmas party at the Doelen in Rotterdam and a weekly course to help our staff with Dutch. It all costs a bit, but if you focus too much on finances, it always comes at the expense of your people.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.b2-cleaning.nl\/\">www.b2-cleaning.nl<\/a><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u201cHee, Mo!
