Opened in 2024, Reset Spa is located less than a hundred metres from The Hague\u2019s city centre. Yet the contrast with the outside world couldn\u2019t be greater. The moment you close the door of Brouwersgracht 4 behind you, the cacophony of traffic abruptly stops. No more rattling trams and grumbling motorbikes. Peace. And that\u2019s exactly what we\u2019re here for.\n\u201cSome guests look out the window after their float session and end up staying for a cup of tea,\u201d says Jennifer Vis\u00e9e (38) with a smile. The owner, who also runs a wellness centre by the same name in Naaldwijk, has long made relaxation a key part of her life. At eighteen, she worked briefly as a beautician at a resort. \u201cThe scents of eucalyptus and lavender, the calm atmosphere\u2014it really stayed with me. I\u2019d often go in on a quiet Sunday evening. That was pure bliss.\u201d<\/p>\n

Wellness<\/h2>\n

Later, she noticed how popular salt baths were becoming. \u201cPeople were queueing up for them. I thought: why not offer that as a private experience, so everyone has their own bath? That\u2019s far more relaxing.\u201d\nShe found a specialist builder in Friesland, wrote a business plan, and created a mood board for the architect. When a building on Secretaris Verhoeffweg 17b in the heart of Naaldwijk became available, the deal was done within six months.<\/p>\n

In 2019, she opened the first Reset Spa with two float rooms and two wellness rooms, equipped with a Finnish sauna, an infrared cabin, a steam room and a whirlpool.\nThe Hague location doesn\u2019t include those wellness features, but it does have five floating cabins. Why so many?\n\u201cWe\u2019ve had virtually no competition for years, especially not in the Haaglanden region,\u201d Vis\u00e9e explains. \u201cAll the float centres that once existed are now gone. In Naaldwijk, we always had a waiting list\u2014sometimes up to two weeks long. Expansion was really needed.\u201d<\/p>\n

Floating<\/h2>\n

The two main reasons Reset Spa stands out from its few competitors? Hygiene and cabin design.\n\u201cOne of the first questions people ask us before their first float session is: \u2018Can I stand up inside if I need to?\u2019 That\u2019s a dealbreaker for many,\u201d says Vis\u00e9e. \u201cMost float centres use pods\u2014what I call \u2018eggs\u2019\u2014where the lid closes once you\u2019re lying down. Some people find that claustrophobic. At Reset Spa, there\u2019s two metres of space above your head.\u201d\nThe cabins are automatically sterilised. \u201cThis happens during the 30-minute window when guests are showering and getting dressed, so the next person always steps into a clean bath.\u201d\nWater quality is also closely monitored by a government-certified laboratory. \u201cTheir inspectors show up unannounced, but so far, everything has gone smoothly.\u201d<\/p>\n

Magnesium<\/h2>\n

So, the two big questions: what exactly is floating, and what does it do for you?<\/p>\n

\u201cFloating means immersing yourself in a bath filled with 100% natural magnesium crystals, which are absorbed through the skin,\u201d explains Vis\u00e9e. \u201cRegular floating offers a wide range of benefits, from reducing stress to relieving pain.\u201d\nShe takes a sip of her smoothie. \u201cDid you know that one hour of floating is equivalent to five hours of sleep, thanks to the deep relaxation it provides? It can also speed up recovery after physical exertion, help with anxiety and depression, and boost concentration.\nI really noticed that recently\u2014after an hour-long session, I was able to set clear priorities again.\u201d\nBecause floating can be beneficial for people with conditions like arthritis, rheumatism or burnout, Reset Spa offers a discounted medical pass. A referral from a doctor or physiotherapist is required.\nAthletes also benefit from salt baths. \u201cMagnesium helps keep the muscles supple and reduces inflammation. That\u2019s why it\u2019s a regular part of the training routine for footballers from clubs like Manchester United and Glasgow Rangers.\u201d<\/p>\n

Pregnant women also find it helpful. \u201cFloating makes you feel weightless. Your spine is relieved of pressure, and thanks to the gentle buoyancy, you don\u2019t feel your own weight\u2014or the baby\u2019s,\u201d she says. And if mobility is an issue, a staff member can help you in and out of the bath.<\/p>\n
