What a celebration it was last Friday at Het Spaansche Hof on the Westeinde. Around 200 guests — from CEOs to creatives, from champagne makers to chocolate specialists — came together to celebrate the launch of two new Kingstreet Magazines.

“It’s already the fourteenth edition of Kingstreet Netherlands,” said publisher Annerieke Simeone of Media Fresca. For years, the magazine was known as Bij Ons In De Residentie, but with the arrival of the English edition, launched last year, the publishing house fully switched to the name Kingstreet. “It’s a stronger brand name and aligns better with the magazine’s ambition and character.”

Highest quality

The evening opened with refined bites from Karsten & Kuiper and a welcome cocktail by De Filosoof, the wine bar set to open its doors at Het Spaansche Hof.

During her speech, Annerieke Simeone thanked the creative team. “At Media Fresca, the bar is set high. Whether it’s photography, design, interviews or events: we always aim for the highest quality. That’s why we work with the best creative talent in this city. Thanks to their creativity, humour and dedication, we’re able to craft strong stories for this city.”

Simeone also shared an anecdote about a Telegraaf reporter who, after the launch of the first international edition, had warned her: “The first edition always gets extra attention, but the real test comes after. The second magazine will be decisive.” With those words in mind, Media Fresca proudly presented the second international edition.

Initiatives in The Hague

What can readers expect in the magazines? In-depth interviews, tips, news and positive stories about life in The Hague. There’s an exclusive interview with Yuji Iwasawa, President of the International Court of Justice, and a remarkable conversation with Princess Laurentien and her daughter Eloise, who earned their place in the magazine with their shop My Lima Lima. There’s also a feature on De Titaan, the innovative hub where the editorial team worked in recent months, and numerous new projects in the city: the international health centre We Care on the Lange Voorhout, the expansion of Leiden University on the Spui with its new hospitality concept Brew & Bake, and several new hotels, including The Ald on the Fluwelen Burgwal.

Art plays a prominent role in both editions. Media Fresca congratulated Coen van den Oever of Galerie Den Haag on his 30-year anniversary and highlighted photographer Daanoe, known for his work capturing decay and abandoned spaces. Through a special app, guests — and soon also readers — could literally look around inside his photographs.

First copies

The highlight of the evening was the presentation of the first copies. The first copy was presented to Nancy-Carolus Zomer, director of Omniversum-Museon: a versatile woman with a sharp vision and a mission to move her audience. The second copy went to Raouf Jarmo, CFO of RE:BORN, the company behind Het Spaansche Hof, the Pier and, more recently, the Palace Promenade.

Simeone concluded with a preview: next year, we will celebrate the 15th edition of Dutch Kingstreet. A milestone that we will certainly celebrate.
